Introducing our Early 1900s String Star Quilt Jacket, a genuine tribute to the artistry and heritage of a bygone era. Immerse yourself in the intricate maze of fabrics, each meticulously hand-pieced, stitched, and quilted to recreate the enchanting early 1900s string star pattern. These unique quilts hold a special place in my heart as they are crafted from leftover fabrics, creating not just one-of-a-kind pieces, but also serving as captivating ethnographies of the time they originated—a true testament to the art of reusing and repurposing.
This exceptional coat showcases sought-after red and yellow fabrics, including the rare indigo and black prints that are always a challenge to find. Plaids, tweed, chambrays, delicate cotton florals, polka dots, and flannels are thoughtfully woven throughout, making this jacket a collector's dream.
The creation of this classic chore jacket involved over 60 hours of meticulous work, from mending the quilt to preserve its glory to the final construction. Techniques such as internally fusing fabrics, stitching, and replacing broken pieces were employed as a labor of love. To maintain an authentic Americana spirit, vintage Ralph Lauren fabric was repurposed for internal and external binding, and vintage shank buttons sourced in the States were used.
Hand-sewn buttonholes and professionally bound seams reflect the unwavering attention to detail invested in this extraordinary creation. An internal pocket adds convenience, and a vintage label, individually embroidered in-house, further enhances the garment's authenticity. More than just clothing, this is wearable folk art—a testament to Americana's rich tapestry. Reserved for serious collectors, this jacket is a showstopper for those who appreciate antique textiles and fashion.
The oversized chore coat silhouette pays homage to the enduring appeal of American workwear and is based on the pattern of a 1950s Pointer brand chore coat from my personal collection. The jacket is a medium weight, perfect for all seasons.
This jacket transcends mere clothing; it is an ode to timeless craftsmanship and enduring style. Despite bearing the marks of time and wear, the deliberate aging process highlights the exquisite resilience of this textile, which has gracefully endured for over a century.
